Beautiful, bucolic Vacherie, Louisiana, on the Mississippi River, hosts numerous plantations, including the famed Oak Alley. This town also holds the distinction of being a filming location for the show True Detective.
With its connection to the past through its many historic sites, Vacherie also maintains an eye toward the future for its residents through modern services, such as expert endodontic care. At Southern Endodontic Specialists, we bring the latest in root canal therapy and more to the residents of Vacherie, Louisiana.
Everyone would ideally be able to keep all their teeth for life. However, accidents and decay can cause problems that threaten the smile. Endodontists offer treatments that can save teeth from internal damage. At Southern Endodontics Specialists, we offer the following among our many treatment options:
A cracked tooth may not seem like an emergency, especially if the tooth does not hurt. However, the crack allows germs to get into the tooth. Internal infections can eventually cause severe decay that requires extraction of the tooth.
To prevent a cracked tooth from turning into a lost tooth, you should seek endodontic care as soon as possible. A small crack will likely grow over time, and non-painful cracks will turn painful as the pulp of the tooth becomes infected.
Endodontic treatment can save the tooth and stop a painful infection.
As experts in internal tooth anatomy, we provide the root canal therapy or endodontic surgery needed to save your cracked tooth.
Root canal therapy is a painless, non-surgical method of clearing infected pulp from inside a tooth. The endodontist also fills and seals the tooth. After this procedure, you have a fully functioning tooth, allowing you to avoid the alternative of extraction.
While endodontists are most well-known for offering root canal therapy, not all offices use the same equipment for this procedure. At Southern Endodontic Specialists, we use the Gentlewave system. This device is one of the most up-to-date pieces of technology in the field to help our patients enjoy faster root canals with rapid recovery times.
Older forms of root canal therapy required doctors to use tiny files to clean out the interior of the teeth. However, patients were at risk of having files breaking off inside their teeth, causing failure of the procedure. With the Gentlewave system, our doctors don’t need files. The Gentlewave uses water and sound waves to clean out the tooth. Therefore, patients no longer have to worry about broken files.
Additionally, the Gentlewave system more thoroughly cleans out treated teeth, reducing the time needed for the root canal and preventing complications.
We can help if you experience a traumatic tooth injury. Call us for emergency tooth care if you have a knocked-out tooth or one that pushes up into your gums. Both situations require prompt care to stabilize the tooth and save it. However, the time needed to get treatment for a knocked-out tooth is much shorter due to exposure of the tooth roots to the air.
If one of your teeth gets knocked out, place it in a glass of milk and call the closest of our offices to you. We have sites in Houma and Thibodaux. Ideally, you should arrive for treatment within 30 minutes of the incident to reduce the chances of losing the tooth.
With these injuries, you will need emergency stabilization of the tooth. Later, you’ll have a follow-up appointment with the doctor. During this visit, our endodontists will examine your tooth and determine if the pulp sustained injury and needs root canal therapy. This painless endodontic treatment will help you to keep your tooth after a traumatic injury.
Occasionally, teeth need surgery for treatment. Endodontic surgery addresses problems inside the tooth. Surgery differs from non-surgical procedures, such as root canal therapy, because the endodontist has to cut into the gums or bone during the process.
One common form of treatment is apicoectomy. This surgery cleans out an infected tooth pulp from the root end. To reach the root end of the tooth, the doctor needs to cut through the gums.
An endodontist may opt for this surgery if they cannot properly access the tooth’s canals from the top via root canal therapy.
While endodontic surgery is slightly more invasive than non-surgical treatments, the procedure is painless. Plus, recovery does not produce significant pain. In fact, you likely won’t need prescription pain medicine after surgery. Most patients find ibuprofen and acetaminophen are sufficient for controlling their pain.
As with other endodontic procedure
res, endodontic surgery will help you to save a tooth from extraction.
At Southern Endodontic Specialists, we have the honor of having two locally born and raised doctors working at our Houma and Thibodaux locations.
Dr. Ber was born in Thibodaux and earned his dental certificate in New Orleans from the LSU School of Dentistry. Later, he graduated from St. Louis University, where he earned a Master of Science in Dentistry and his endodontic certificate. Since 2004, he’s practiced endodontics in the Tri-Parish area.
Dr. Gaudet comes from Houma. He went to LSU in Baton Rouge for his undergraduate degree and attended LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans for his DDS degree. In 2009, he earned his certificate in endodontics from the same school and has practiced in the area since.
Both our doctors are equally skilled in endodontic care and love to help patients keep their smiles.
