Whenever it comes to working with a dental specialist, it is always desirable to know more about who will be performing the procedure. The familiarity can help calm the nerves and make the entire process much more comfortable. If you need a root canal treatment or have a cracked tooth that needs repairing, knowing who will be performing the procedure will help make them feel more like a work associate or even a friend instead of someone with a mask whose fingers are around your face.
After all, you don’t only want a top endodontic specialist in Houma, LA, but you want someone you know and trust. At Southern Endodontic Specialists, you will have both, thanks to our top endodontic specialists: Dr. Steven Gaudet and Dr. Benjamin Ber.
More About Dr. Ber
Like his associate, Dr. Ber hails from this area of Louisiana. He was born and raised in Thibodaux and spent most of his life here loving the local community. When he finished high school and it was time to move on to college, he knew he didn’t want to leave the great state of Louisiana. He decided to take the short drive to Baton Rouge, where he began college at Louisiana State University.
Dr. Ber attended LSU until 1998. Wanting to continue his education, he enrolled in the LSU Dental School, located in New Orleans. He spent four years there before graduating and moving out of the state for the first time to study endodontics in St. Louis, Missouri. He also received his certificate in endodontics as well as a Masters of Science in Dentistry.
Once Dr. Ber completed his studies, he moved back to his childhood community of Thibodaux, where he now lives with his wife and two children, Anderson Joseph and Caroline Louise. He has been practicing in Houma since 2004, and in the nearly two decades since beginning his practice here in the community, he has seen hundreds of patients walk through the front doors.

Technology Used by Southern Endodontic Specialists
Because Dr. Ber and Dr. Gaudet specialize in endodontics, they can focus all of their attention on the highest quality of technology, which helps ensure they can provide the highest level of service to their patients. General dentists often do not have this level of endodontic technology as they usually focus on various treatments in a single office.
It is why many local and even regional dentists refer their patients to Southern Endodontic Specialists whenever they require a root canal, endodontic surgery, or have a cracked tooth that needs repairing.
Gone are the days when patients needed to receive film-based X-rays. Now, with digital radiography used by the staff at Southern Endodontic Specialists, the X-ray is not only produced faster, but the technology is safer, and the equipment is far less cumbersome, which is excellent news for anyone who dislikes going into a dental X-ray machine.
Likewise, the staff uses a CS8100 Carestream Dental cone beam CT unit, which creates a 3D image of the area of concern. This provides an extremely accurate representation of the tooth, making it easier to diagnose a condition. It is also less invasive for patients.
On the other hand, patients that are undergoing a root canal will become familiar with the GentleWave technology. This state-of-the-art equipment dramatically improves the ability to perform a root canal while reducing the chances of requiring a follow-up root canal for any pulp and nerve endings that might have been missed. The technology provides enhanced cleaning ability utilizing ultrasonic sound, making it easier for the endodontist to go in and navigate the canals of a tooth.
Southern Endodontic Specialists’ digital office system makes it possible to pre-register online when signing up to become a new patient. Instead of drawn-out paperwork and documentation, digital documentation can save up to 20 minutes of paperwork when arriving at the office for an appointment (because nobody likes to sit around in a waiting room and fill out form after form). Plus, all information is fully encrypted to provide the latest security.
